While we at First Water pride ourselves in our light-tackle techniques, we leave such niceties at home during this brutish season. These fish will punish you, even with 30-80 pound-test line and extra-heavy rods.
Autumn on the Oregon coast is a time of transition. Leaves are changing, the nights are cooling down, and often the weather turns wet. Rivers rise and fall, and autumn salmon make the last leg of their long spawning migration.

This unique season brings with it a wide variety of salmon species: fall Chinook (the really big ones), coho salmon (also known as "silvers"), and chum salmon (the bulldogs of the river). Following all of these are egg-hungry steelhead (both summer and winter variety) and cutthroat trout. "Awesome" is the only way to describe it.

First Water Outfitters offers flyfishing and bait fishing trips during the fall, and we are not afraid to mix it up. But, whatever the method, what's important to us is that our clients have the best possible day on the river.

Call (503) 351-9853 to set up a trip, or e-mail to robrussell@firstwateroutfitters.com. A $50 deposit will guarantee your date.
